Thor: Love and Thunder 2022 (Film Review)

The film “Thor: Love and Thunder” released on 7th July 2022 is a superhero film based on the famous Marvel Comics. The film is written and directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/Mighty Thor, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Taika Waititi as Korg, with Russell Crowe as Zeus. This film is a sequel to other Marvel films like Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, and Avengers: Endgame. This film is a mixture of Comedy, Drama, and lots of Action as a Marvel movie will always be incomplete without the “Action” part.

Throughout the years, we have seen Thor facing a lot of tragedy and loss in his life as he lost his loved ones, from his parents to his beloved brother Loki and even Jane Foster, the love of his life. We thought Thor had almost given up, but this was not the case. In this movie we see Thor getting back at his game again as he continues to save the universe with his old allies “The Guardians of the Galaxy” and fighting a new enemy that is “The God Butcher”. We also see Thor reuniting with “DR. Jane Foster”, the love of his life. While Thor is busy helping the Guardians of the Galaxy fight their enemies and showing off his godly powers, Jane on earth finds out that she is battling fourth-stage cancer. While getting her treatment and searching for a cure, she somehow finds out that Mjolnir which is Thor’s previous weapon is capable of granting some powers for everlasting life. To find Mjolnir, Jane heads toward the New Asgard, where the hammer was kept. Suddenly when she reaches the Hammer, she is deemed worthy to wield the hammer which is Mjolnir. And boom, we have a new Thor. With the powers of Thunder, she was known as “The Mighty Thor”.

Now come to the plot where Gorr the God Butcher is on his mission to kill all the Gods just because his daughter died and has kidnapped the children of Asgard to get Thor’s weapon the “Storm breaker”. Gorr needs the storm breaker to reach Eternity, where the wish of the person reaching there first is fulfilled Gorr’s wish was to wipe out every God at once. To stop Gorr and to rescue the children of Asgard Thor and his team, Valkyrie, and Jane aka The Mighty Thor heads towards the Shadow of the realm. Thor manages to save the children with the help of Jane who later dies fighting Gorr as she uses all her power to top Gorr but in the end, Gorr manages to steal Thor’s ax, the Storm Breaker and he reaches Eternity. Thor then persuades Gorr and convinces him to do things in another way. He asks him to bring his daughter back instead of killing all the Gods as the death of his daughter was the reason for killing all the Gods. Gorr agrees with Thor but on the condition that Thor looks after his daughter. The battle was won but at a great loss of Jane’s life.

Now if we compare this sequel of the film with the previous sequels, I would say that this film was not up to the mark. I was expecting more from this film because the third part which is Thor: Ragnarok was way better than this one. The story, the plot, everything was very interesting and perfect in a way. Thor: Ragnarok is said to be one of the best films in the whole marvel movie series, and I believe that Thor Ragnarok sets standards very high. So according to me the story of Thor: Love and Thunder were good but it could have been a lot better. Thor: Love and Thunder is the third movie of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The other two movies of phase 4 were Spiderman: No way home and Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. If I would have to rate these movies, I would say Spiderman: No way home would be number 1. Number 2 will be Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder will be number 3. What do you guys think about this? Let me know in the comments down below!
